Here in North Texas, we are due at least one new Congressional District. Because of the 2010 Census and the decennial reapportionment required by Article I of the United States Constitution, Texas gained four Congressional Seats, and accordingly, four electoral votes for President.
Per Federal Law and our Constitution, there must be a new congressional district in North Texas: District 33. A number of plantiffs, including my friend, and Democratic State Senator, Wendy Davis, sued under the Voting Rights Act to remedy the gerrymandered, partisan maps drawn the 2011 Texas Legislature, commanded by Republicans. A San Antonio Federal Court Panel of the Western District decided on a new map for the 2012 elections. I filed for that new seat drawn across Tarrant and Dallas Counties, District 33.
