For me, representing District 8 on the Fort Worth City Council is not just about a job or having a title in front of my name. For me, representing District 8 is an honor and responsibility I take very seriously.I am District 8 and District 8 is me.You see, some of my first memories as a child are my mother’s law practice on Evans, I attended elementary school at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School on Terrell and served as an altar server and reader at OMM Church,I was reared in Rolling Hills, and through it all, I grew up with a commitment to give back, not just taking from the community that has given so much to me.
I was blessed to receive a stellar education at MountHolyokeCollege in Massachusetts and a master’s degree at NottinghamUniversity in Nottingham, England. However, I feel I ended up right where I should be: back in South-East Fort Worth working to uplift the community that uplifted me: the daughter of a hard-working single-parent.
As native of South-East Fort Worth, it is a truly an honor for me to represent the area on the Council.Working as a council aide for 8 years before serving as council member, I worked with residents all over the district.
As Council member for District 8, I have been guided by several goals that guide me each and every day:
Pro-Active and responsive City Hall
We receive calls and comments not only from District 8 resident but all over the City of Fort Worth and beyond.I hope this is because people know that we will listen and try to help in any way that we can.
We communicate regularly with the district through a quarterly newsletter
Town Hall meetings that engage the residents of District 8
Work to help create new neighborhood associations and assist existing organizations
Active and involved residents
It is very important to me that District 8 residents in particular know that their issues will be heard and that they will have an active council member to address their concerns
An active District 8 Advisory Board
Positive Re-Development
From Morningside to Meadowbrook, from Greenway to Garden Acress, from Riverside to Rolling Hills, we are a diverse district. We are also a proud and growing district.I am proud to continue to be on this road toward positive and lasting change.
